We Built Something Bigger Than a Campaign.
Our work isn't finished. Here's what we built together, and what's next.
Thank you.
The support you and this community delivered is unparalleled. In just six months, we built a campaign focused on equity, transparency, and accountability. We elevated these issues, creating priorities to which other candidates then responded. We demonstrated that you do not need to be a political insider, a celebrity, or backed by millions of dollars to make a strong run for office.
You made it happen: with just around $600,000 from over 1,500 donations (thank you!), with a small and mighty team, and with rockstar volunteers, we took on the system... and showed it is possible to change the status quo.
So, what did we do? We knocked on 4,000+ doors. We canvassed up and down hundreds of miles of Manhattan streets (on Primary Day alone, I walked 14 miles to visit 10+ poll sites). We cultivated relationships with hundreds of activists, dozens of tenant associations, and residents at all 21 of this district’s NYCHA communities. We spoke to tens of thousands of voters. We went viral on social media – speaking truth to power with our message for change.
How do we explain what pundits call the “Nina surge?” We stayed true to our values, we kept the discourse positive, and we focused on New Yorkers’ needs in NY-12. We broke the boys’ club with people power, passion, and purpose.
I wish each of you could have been with us on Primary Day to hear directly from voters themselves on their unbridled support and raw enthusiasm for the grassroots power of this campaign. Huge thanks to our awesome social team – you can check out the election night watch party highlights and the comments to feel the vibe.
Many of you have asked, ‘What’s next?’ First, some sleep!
After that: well, we got ideas and look forward to sharing them with you soon, since this remains your community, your city, and your home. And we will build what comes next together!
One thing is for sure – we will continue fighting. And I look forward to collaborating with the primary winner as we care for our neighbors and neighborhoods across this district.
